Brand history

Founded by Ferdinand Adolph Lange to bring watchmaking to the impoverished Erzgebirge; expropriated after WWII, refounded by Walter Lange in 1990 and now the anchor of the modern Glashütte revival.

Founded 1845 in Glashütte, Saxony by Ferdinand Adolph Lange. Nationalized in 1948 under East German rule and effectively dormant for four decades; re-established 1990 by Walter Lange (great-grandson of the founder) with assistance from Günter Blümlein. The 1994 launch (Lange 1, Saxonia, Arkade, Tourbillon "Pour le Mérite") is one of the most successful brand-relaunches in horology, modern Lange is universally acknowledged as a top-luxury manufacture in the same conversation as the holy trinity.
