Pilot / aviation watches
Anti-magnetic case, oversized markers, often a slide-rule or GMT bezel for navigation. Form follows cockpit-function.
Pilot watches trace to the early 20th century, when aviators needed legible instruments operated in thick gloves at distance. The design vocabulary is well-established: large Arabic numerals, a luminous triangle-and-two-dot marker at 12, an outsize crown for gloved operation, and a round or cushion case in steel or matte black. The catalog's 47 pilot references span from vintage-specification small-crown flieger instruments to the oversized IWC Big Pilot 43 and the Breitling Navitimer's slide-rule complexity.
IWC Schaffhausen and Breitling are the catalog's dominant pilot producers; Hamilton's Khaki Pilot and Aviation lines offer the category at the enthusiast tier; Fortis supplies the aviation-military segment. German makers (Sinn, Laco, Stowa, not in this catalog) define the flieger sub-type. Legibility is the constant design brief, which makes pilot watches among the most readable at a glance of any category, and often more appropriate as a daily watch than their tool-watch DNA suggests.
