The Grand Lange 1 Moon Phase is the fullest expression of the Lange 1 concept: 41mm of white gold housing the outsize date and a precision moon phase on the same side of the dial. Most moon phase complications are tucked away; here Lange puts them in direct conversation, which is either exactly what you want or more than you need. If you are buying a Lange 1, this is the one that makes the case for why the design exists.
Lange introduced the Lange 1 in 1994 as the flagship reference at the revival of the Saxon manufacture, and the outsize date became its defining feature. The Grand Lange 1 extended the concept to 41mm and added complication depth, with the moon phase variant arriving to pair the date mechanism with one of horology's oldest indications. The L095.3 is purpose-built for this reference, a development of the core Lange 1 movement architecture with a moon phase module that Lange rates at 122.6 years before requiring a one-day correction.
Reference 139.025 in white gold has been in production since 2014, sitting above the standard Lange 1 and the standard Grand Lange 1 in the collection hierarchy. It remains Lange's clearest statement that the asymmetric dial layout can carry genuine complication without becoming cluttered.
The 41mm case reads larger on the wrist than comparable round watches because the asymmetric dial weight pulls your eye left; try it on before committing if you wear anything under 38mm now. White gold scratches more visibly than yellow or rose gold, and this is a watch that will be handled, so budget for periodic polishing or accept the patina. The moon phase display requires a corrector push to advance it, and owners unfamiliar with Lange's setting protocol sometimes advance it in the wrong direction, which can require a service visit to reset.
Dial condition is the primary driver of secondary market value here: any moisture intrusion or hairline dial damage will cut resale significantly, so inspect under magnification before buying pre-owned. Pre-owned examples sometimes appear without the full box and papers; that matters less for this reference than for some, but original documentation does support value at resale.
