The Series 8 831 GMT is one of the few mechanical GMT watches you can buy new under $1,000, powered by a movement Citizen built in-house specifically for the job. At 41mm it wears well without the bulk that plagues many travel watches, and the crown-set second timezone keeps the case clean. This is a serious tool watch dressed in restrained steel.
Citizen launched the Series 8 line in 2021 as its flagship mechanical family, a deliberate statement that the brand known for Eco-Drive could build compelling automatics. The 831 GMT followed in 2022, adding the 9054 caliber and its independent GMT complication to the lineup. The Series 8 name references Citizen's 8 o'clock crown position, a small ergonomic choice that distinguishes it from the field.
The NB6011-11L is the sunburst blue-dial expression of the 831 GMT, the most collected reference in the family. Citizen's choice to develop an in-house GMT movement rather than source one externally signals genuine commitment to the mechanical tier.
The crown-set GMT is convenient but means adjusting the reference timezone requires pulling the crown to its dedicated position and counting through hours, not as quick as a pusher-adjusted hand. Bracelet finishing on the NB6011-11L is mixed, with polished center links that show scratches faster than the brushed flanks. The 9054 runs at 21,600 bph, which is lower beat than some competitors and can show slightly less smooth hand sweep.
Lug width is 20mm but Citizen's own aftermarket strap options are limited, so budget for a quality third-party strap if the bracelet bothers you. Water resistance is 100m, adequate for everyday wear but not for serious diving.
New, the NB6011-11L lists around $650 to $750 USD depending on retailer. Grey market discounts exist but are modest, typically 10 to 15 percent, because Citizen controls distribution carefully. Pre-owned examples in excellent condition trade at $450 to $550, making them a fair deal but not dramatically cheaper than new.
Demand has been steady since launch with no signs of the model being discontinued.
The Citizen caliber 9054 is a proprietary in-house automatic with a GMT complication and a 40-hour power reserve. Citizen recommends service every 3 to 5 years under regular use. Citizen's authorized service network handles the 9054 directly, and movement parts availability is currently good given the caliber's recent introduction.

Verify GMT hand moves independently in 1-hour increments; a non-functional GMT hand is a movement swap.
