The Oris Artelier | family history
The Artelier is Oris's dress watch. A round case, applied indices, Sellita SW200-based automatics, and a conservative aesthetic that targets buyers who want a Swiss automatic dress watch without the Longines or Hamilton mainstream profile. Redesigned in 2014 for cleaner case lines and improved dial finishing.

2003-2014 · First Artelier generation
The first Artelier generation established Oris's dress-watch presence with ETA or Sellita-based movements in a 40-42mm case. Applied faceted indices and a subsidiary seconds dial were the standard layout. These references are not currently in the Grail Atlas catalog.

2014-present · Redesigned Artelier
The 2014 redesign thinned the case, cleaned the lugs, and improved the dial finishing on the applied indices. The Artelier Date 40 uses a Sellita SW200-1 base. At its price point, it competes with the Hamilton Jazzmaster and the Tissot PR 100, while offering slightly better case finishing and the Oris brand identity's independent watch narrative.
How to read this family
Two honest questions for any Artelier buyer:
- Artelier or Oris Big Crown for an Oris daily? The Artelier is the dress choice; the Big Crown is the pilot-watch heritage choice. Both use Sellita bases. The Artelier is slimmer and more formal; the Big Crown wears sportier. For a watch that moves between casual and business wear, the Artelier is the more versatile.
- Sellita SW200 at this price: is that a concern? The SW200 is a reliable, serviceable movement that any watchmaker can work on. It is not COSC-certified in the Artelier. If precise rate accuracy is important, the Longines Record (L592.2, silicon spring, COSC) is better specified. If a solid, reliable daily wearer is the brief, the SW200 is entirely adequate.
