Brand history

Founded by Maximilian Büsser in 2005 as "Maximilian Büsser & Friends": an independent house built around named-collaborator co-development rather than the integrated-manufacture model. The Horological Machine line launched the brand; the Legacy Machine line (2011) carries the same finishing in a round case.

Founded 2005 in Geneva by Maximilian Büsser (b. 1967), formerly the managing director of Harry Winston Timepieces. "Maximilian Büsser & Friends" is built around the idea of the friends-and-collaborators model rather than the integrated manufacture: each Horological Machine or Legacy Machine is co-developed with a roster of named independent watchmakers, finishers, and case-makers. The Horological Machine line is the brand’s sculpture-on-the-wrist branch (HM1 through HM11, each a different three-dimensional architecture); the Legacy Machine line, launched 2011, runs the same finishing standards under a more-traditional round case with a suspended balance wheel above the dial. Annual production is in the low hundreds. MB&F sits in the top-luxury independent conversation with F.P. Journe, Greubel Forsey, and Laurent Ferrier.
