The Orient Kamasu | family history
The Kamasu is Orient's answer to the question that the Seiko SKX discontinuation left open: where does the $200-$300 colorful entry-level diver live now? The Kamasu offers the F6922 caliber with 200m water resistance in six matte dial colorways at a price that puts mechanical dive watch ownership within reach of anyone interested.
Orient's sharply styled dive collection: the Kamasu delivers 200m water resistance and in-house movement quality at a price point that challenges every assumption about value.
2018-present · The Kamasu as SKX successor
Orient launched the Kamasu in 2018, approximately two years before Seiko discontinued the SKX013 and SKX007 in 2020. The 41.8mm case, 200m water resistance, rotating bezel, and in-house automatic F6922 caliber position it as the most direct functional alternative to the SKX at a similar price point. The dial colorways, matte finish, and lume treatment drew comparisons to the SKX immediately. After the SKX discontinuation, the Kamasu absorbed significant buyer attention from collectors who wanted that specification at that price.
How to read this family
Two questions for Kamasu buyers:
- Is the Kamasu actually comparable to the SKX? In specification: yes. In legacy and secondary market value: no. The SKX built a collector following over two decades of production; the Kamasu does not carry that history. As a tool watch to wear and use, the Kamasu is equivalent. As a collector reference with long-term value, the SKX legacy is unmatched at this price point.
- How does the F6922 caliber compare to Seiko's 4R35? Both are competent entry-level in-house automatics with similar accuracy specifications (Seiko rates the 4R35 to +45/-35 seconds per day; Orient's quoted range is similar). The Seiko movement is more widely documented and has a larger independent service knowledge base, but both are capable movements for daily wear at this price.

Which ref to buy
The Kamasu is Orient's premium sport diver, positioned above the Ray III. In-house movement, 200m WR, more refined bezel and case finishing than the Ray.
- 1Open
Kamasu -- Orient's best diver, cleaner finishing than the Ray, still under $300 with in-house movement.
- The case for it:
- The Kamasu improves on the Ray III in case finishing, bezel action, and dial depth. The in-house movement advantage remains. At the price it competes favorably against Seiko Prospex entry tier and Citizen Promaster.
- Consider instead if:
- The gap between Kamasu and a used Seiko Prospex SRP or SKX is narrow on price and wide on collector culture. Buyers who want community and aftermarket options should go Seiko.
